Impostor Syndrome: Always Feeling Like You’re Not Enough

If you work in tech, you’ve probably felt it: that nagging feeling that you’re not as good as everyone thinks, that you don’t really belong, or that you’re just one mistake away from being “found out.” I feel this all the time. No matter how much I learn or build, there’s always a voice in my head saying, “You’re not good enough.”

At my job, I work with some incredibly talented developers (yes, if you’re my coworker, I’m talking about you). It’s hard not to compare myself to them. They seem to solve problems faster, write cleaner code, or just “get it” in ways I sometimes don’t. The truth is, this constant comparison is exhausting, and it’s made worse by the internet. There’s always someone online who knows more, has built something cooler, or seems to be moving faster. The flood of new knowledge is inspiring, but it can also make you feel like you’ll never catch up.

What I’ve realized is that impostor syndrome doesn’t care about your title. Juniors feel it, seniors feel it, even principal engineers feel it. No one is immune. We all have moments where we think we’re not enough, or that we’re just lucky to be where we are.

How do you fix it? Honestly, I don’t have a magic answer. I’m still figuring it out myself. But I do know that talking to a psychologist can help a lot. Learning to catch those negative thoughts, to stop comparing yourself to others, and to accept that everyone has their own path, that’s crucial. It’s not easy, but it’s worth working on.

If you’re struggling with impostor syndrome, know that you’re not alone. Everyone feels it, even the people you look up to. Be kind to yourself, reach out for help if you need it, and remember: your journey is yours, and that’s enough.
